2nd International Conference on
Collective Motion in Nuclei Under Extreme Conditions
June 20 - 23, 2006
Sankt Goar, Germany

The 2nd International Conference on "Collective Motion in Nuclei under Extreme Conditions" (COMEX 2) will be held in June 20 - 23, 2006 in Sankt Goar, Germany. The conference will be jointly hosted by Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD) and Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI) Darmstadt.

The scope of the conference will follow that of the previous one, COMEX 1, held in Paris in 2003. This conference, the eighth in the series of Giant Resonance Conferences of the years 1979 to 2003, supplemented the traditional fields of giant resonances by related topics of collective excitations in stable and unstable nuclei .

Conference Topics

  • Giant Resonances in Cold and Hot Nuclei
  • Threshold Strength and Collective Modes in Exotic Nuclei
  • Spin and Spin-Isospin modes
  • Clustering and Pairing Effects
  • Multi-Phonon Excitations
  • Astrophysical Aspects
  • Related Fields in Non-Nuclear Systems

The Scientific program will consist of invited talks and selected oral contributions. A poster session will also be part of the conference.

Conference Site

The conference will be held at "Schloss Rheinfels" Castle in Sankt Goar, Germany. Sankt Goar is a picturesque little town located on the Rhine river, about halfway between Köln and Mainz, close to the famous Loreley. It is located within the newly created UNESCO cultural heritage site "Mittleres Rheintal". The conference venue, Schloss Rheinfels, is situated above Sankt Goar, providing spectacular views of the valley of the Rhine river. It can be easily reached from Frankfurt's Rhein-Main airport by shuttle bus, train, or a one-hour car drive.
